‘American Idol’ Fans Are Surprised to Find Out About Colin Stough’s Past Before Making Top 3

Are you able to believe that American Idol is close to being done? It’s like the 2023 season began a week ago and we’re in the final three contestants who’re aiming to be the winner! Every every week Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie guide the young musicians and the viewers are constantly amazed by the talents each brings to the stage.

One competitor who is who is making waves in this season’s competition is the Top 3 Finalist Colin Stough, along with Iam Tongi and Megan Danielle in the highly sought-after spots. The first time they met him was during the premiere episode, finding out that his mother was the person who enrolled him in the show. While she was standing outside the auditions room she was Mississippi native wowed the judges with Acoustic version of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” Luke was so impressed that he stated that the 18-year-old is “what American Idol is about.”

A few months later and Colin is poised to take over the 2022 crown from Noah Thompson and be this year’s winner. In addition to his talent on stage, fans are eager to know who he is off the stage.

Television viewers know Colin mostly as a country music star but he wasn’t always a country singer. Before he was a contestant on the show, he worked at a local burger place in the town he grew up in, Amory, Mississippi. In addition the restaurant was run by the other participant Zachariah Smith whom was recently eliminated from American Idol after having been in the top 5.

Apart from being employed in fast-food, Colin was busy carving out a musical career his own style. He posted his debut version of Chris Stapleton’s “Cold” on TikTok in November of 2020. It was viewed by more than 15 thousand people. He quickly grew a massive following on the application, with nearly 300,000 users following his distinctive take on songs that include the likes of Elvis Presley and Luke Combs.

In the spirit of musical snark, Colin keeps wowing the judges with his renditions of rock and pop songs. To make the Top 12 performance, he sang the song of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” and provoked a shiver by the judge. Additionally, he performed Alanis Morissette‘s “Hand in My Pocket” to the singer herself, and gave the singer “chills” when she was as a guest judge in the early part of May.

“I did not see that coming,” she said to him following his performance. “You brought the lower kind of, inward looking, and then built it up to this big bombastic beautiful mess. So, beautiful work.”

Like the reactions of judges to his music, Colin got a similar impression when he announced that he was releasing new music. In April 11th, the singer announced via Instagram on his account that the latest song “Bad Day” was officially released across every streaming platform. He also took the time to express his gratitude to all who helped his journey to the unknown.

“My track Bad Day is now out !!!!! across all MUSIC PLATFORMS !!!” He composed. “I promised you all I would finish it and I have since thanked you all for your love and support,” he wrote. !!!!!”

Despite his recent successes, Colin is still humble about his journey to where he is currently in. He spoke about this in a recent video uploaded to TikTok in which he expresses his thanks to those who have been voting for Colin throughout his journey in American Idol.

“Thank y’all so much for the support and love that I’ve gotten through this American Idol journey,” He said in the video. “Let’s hope to keep it going, go to the Top 3 and get to come back to the ‘sip and play a little show!”
